The news just reported that yet another plane crash has occurred, this time at the Khartoum airport in Sudan. Luckily there are reports of at least some survivors. Not much is known regarding the Sudanese plane crash at this point.
The plane apparently veered off a runway as it landed in Khartoum, and then burst into flames. The plane had come from Amman, Jordan.
The video of the plane crash looks bad. Then again most plane crashes aren’t good. But from I have seen from the video I think it is amazing that ANYONE has survived. A big rave to the airline crew for saving as many passengers as they have, the exact count is unknown at this point.
Air travel safety is something we often overlook but crashes like this prove that we must always think safety first. There are things you can do to help should the plane you are traveling on encounter problems.
I have been through 2 emergency landings and they are not fun. The sheer panic that goes through passengers who freak out is hard to deal with. Crew members really need to be commended when these types of things happen because they are expected to keep their own emotions under control as well as maintain order.
So the next time you board a plane make sure you are prepared. Know where the exits are, are the number of seats to the exit. Why? Because if you count the number of seats you can feel your way to the exit should you not be able to see, either due to loss of lights and power or because the plane is filled with smoke.
Don’t take your safety lightly and realize that if something does go wrong it is YOUR responsibility to look out for yourself. The crew cannot save everyone and their focus should be in aiding those who are young, elderly, or disabled.
