The blaze that has destroyed the Texas governors mansion is under investigation and arson is suspected. Fire broke out at the Texas governors mansion and firefighters were on the scene around 1:45 AM this morning (Sunday June 8th 2008).
Governor Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry were not in the governors mansion at the time of the fire. They were actually traveling in Europe.
The Texas Fire Marshall’s Office reports that it has found evidence of arson and that they are actively reviewing surveillance video to determine who is responsible for the fire.
While the firefighters were unable to save the Texas governors mansion structure which is irreplaceable due to its historic features. However the Texas governors mansion was undergoing a renovation and the majority of its historic contents, such as artwork and furniture, was placed in storage.
Summer and smoke seem to go together these days as forest fires and arson cases rise. I guess firebug arsonists don’t like to brave the cold of Winter. I hope the Texas Fire Marshall is able to bring the arsonist in this case to justice, not just for Governor Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry but for every resident in the state of Texas who lost a part of their state’s history today.
End of rant on firebugs.
